Thanks
We asked, and you responded.
Thanks to everyone who filled out a listener survey this spring. We hope that it will become an annual exercise that tells us how we’re doing in our service to you.
To summarize your responses – you like what we’re doing. There seemed to be slight favoritism toward our classical offerings, which we anticipated. You’ve listened as much or more to the station this year. There have been some improvements you’ve recognized. You like most of our network programming and support keeping a good amount of local news as part of our programming mix. Many to most of you are considering purchasing an HD radio when and if we make the transition for all of our stations.
There were a couple of items that jump out as areas of concern:
- Very, very few of our regular listeners tune in for EKU sporting events.
- The majority of you rarely if ever listen to Whad’ya Know with Michael Feldman. We
continue to get complaints about the general quality of that program that often are accompanied by calls to take it off the air.

As a result of your comments – and by looking at our bottom line this year – we have decided to not renew Whad’ya Know for this year. We will replace it with NPR’s popular Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me and a program that we hope you’ll like called Says You.
Wait, Wait is a companion program to the very successful Car Talk. They are both produced by Urgent Haircut Productions. Says You is an update of the word parlor game My Word which aired on the BBC for a number of years. Says You explores words and word origins in a fun and accessible way. We hope you will give them a try and let us know what you think.
Other changes include rearranging existing programs in hopes to find better audience response. Many folks miss the beginning of All Things Considered, so, we thought that we would return to the practice of airing it an extra hour (until 7 pm) where it will be followed by The World.

Some of these programming changes duplicate programming from other stations. While many of you are in the greater Richmond/Lexington corridor, our broadcast area spans most of the 22 county service region of Eastern Kentucky University. Some of those service areas can only reliably pick up our programming feed.
You may have noticed that our Program Director Laura Allen has left us to return “home” to Charleston, WV. She will be working for the United Methodist Church there and we wish her well in her new endeavor. Before leaving Laura worked with me to create and shape these recent changes. We are currently aggressively searching for her replacement – we’ll keep you posted on its progress. In the interim, if you should have any programming related questions, please contact me directly.
